Quick answer
Two minimum. Twelve maximum. No matchmaking.
Big Walk supports 2–12 online players across Windows, Mac, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch 2. The host also selects a 2-player, 3-player, or 4+ version of the world when starting a session.
That choice is a minimum challenge version, not a room cap. A 2-player world can still hold more friends. The official advice is to choose for the smallest number likely to remain available, because parts of the world adapt to that setting.
Ideal party size
There is no official best number.
Clear roles, quieter communication, and the easiest group to schedule across several sessions.
One player can scout while two operate a mechanism, without turning every regroup into a roll call.
Enough people to split into teams while everyone can still track the plan and the rendezvous.
The supported maximum range: louder, less predictable, and closer to the deliberate “absolute mess” described by House House.
2 vs 3 vs 4+
Pick the minimum stable attendance.
| Host choice | Choose it when | What it does not mean |
|---|---|---|
| 2 players | Only two people are guaranteed to stay. | The lobby is not limited to two. |
| 3 players | Three people can reliably participate. | Every puzzle is not confirmed to use exactly three inputs. |
| 4+ players | At least four will remain available. | The overall maximum is still 12, not four. |
Official guidance says some things in the world change with this selection. It does not publish a complete puzzle-by-puzzle difference table, so do not assume an answer from one party version transfers exactly to another.
Finding players
Bring a group; there is no public matchmaking.
Friends can enter through a supported platform friend list or the host’s current Join Code. That code is a private connection tool, not an automatic teammate finder.
Copies, devices & Friend Pass
Plan for one access entitlement per player.
No first-party Friend Pass or one-copy guest documentation was found as of . Each participant therefore needs access to Big Walk on a supported device. Steam lists Family Sharing and Nintendo lists family-group lending, but those platform services are not the same promise as a simultaneous co-op Friend Pass.
If the group is buying together, confirm each person’s storefront access before choosing the host. Crossplay connects supported systems after purchase or entitlement; it does not give another player a license.
Multiple sessions
Players may rotate; the host cannot.
- 1Name the long-term host
That person’s game stores the continuing world and progress automatically.
- 2Choose for the minimum attendance
If four start but only two can stay, the official advice points toward the 2-player version.
- 3Let late friends use the current code
The host must first load into the world; every new session creates a fresh Join Code.
- 4Stop together
When the host ends the session, everyone else disconnects. Resume later from the host’s save.
Same room?
Same home can work; the same room weakens the game.
The official FAQ says friends in one home can play on separate devices from separate rooms. Sitting together lets everyone hear voices outside the game, bypassing distance, walls, radios, and silent challenges. Nothing physically stops the software, but the communication design loses its point.
For the intended experience, give each player headphones, a supported device, and enough separation that only the in-game voice or text system carries information.
Quick answers
Player-count and party FAQ
How many players can play Big Walk?
Big Walk supports a minimum of 2 and a maximum of 12 online players.
What is the best number of players?
House House does not name one ideal count. Two is focused; groups closer to 12 are more chaotic. Choose the people who can reliably return, not the largest possible lobby.
What do the 2, 3, and 4+ choices mean?
They are world versions selected by the host. Some things adapt to the chosen minimum participation level; they are not maximum lobby sizes.
Can you play Big Walk with randoms?
There is no public matchmaking. Players join through an active platform friend game or a current Join Code.
Does everyone need to play together every time?
Not everyone has to attend the whole session. Choose a lower world version if attendance may drop, and remember that the original host must return to continue the save.
Do all players need to buy Big Walk?
Each player needs access on a supported device. No first-party Friend Pass documentation was found as of August 9, 2026; platform family sharing or lending is a separate entitlement with platform-specific rules.
Can two people play on one console?
Big Walk is presented as online co-op, not local split-screen. The official FAQ discusses people in the same home using separate devices and separate rooms so the in-game communication rules still work.
