Big Walk Review

A spoiler-free buyer guide built around the question that scores cannot answer: does your actual group match the game House House made?

Spoiler-free verdict

Worth it for the right group—not for every co-op shopper.

Big Walk is easiest to recommend when two or more friends can commit to the same host, use the game’s built-in communication, and enjoy finding their own route through an open world. Its proximity chat, gestures, tools, and communication restrictions turn ordinary travel into the game’s best material.

The same design creates hard deal-breakers. There is no real solo campaign, no public matchmaking, and the host keeps the only continuing world save. If coordinating the same people sounds worse than the puzzles sound fun, wait. If your group already enjoys getting lost, talking over one another, and turning mistakes into stories, the premise and the social systems line up unusually well.

Review score context

Storefront signals, clearly dated.

The archived score context is no longer displayed because storefront figures move. Use the official Steam page for current numbers; the buyer-fit analysis on this page does not depend on a live score.

Buyer fit

Know which side your group is on.

Great fit

  • You have at least one reliable co-op partner.
  • Your group enjoys deduction without a quest marker dictating every move.
  • Proximity voice, text limits, gestures, and miscommunication sound fun.
  • You like exploration punctuated by handcrafted challenges.
  • You can let one dependable person remain the long-term host.

Wait or skip

  • You mainly want a solo game or anonymous matchmaking.
  • Your group changes completely every session.
  • You need every player to hold an interchangeable copy of the save.
  • You plan to stay in an unrestricted external voice call throughout.
  • You want a published hour count before committing.

Big Walk is not just a line of isolated puzzle rooms. Official descriptions emphasize a wide-open world, physical tools and toys, voices that change with space, and moments where talking stops working. That means your enjoyment depends as much on the group’s improvisation as on the authored solution.

With two players, each observation matters and roles stay clear. With a large party, plans fracture, objects disappear, and several conversations can overlap. House House explicitly supports both ends of that spectrum; neither one is the single intended mode.

Before you buy

The friction is deliberate—the logistics are not optional.

  1. 1
    No public matchmaking

Bring people you know, or people you have organized through a private group. The game will not assemble a random party.

  2. 2
    No true solo completion

You can enter and walk around alone, but official guidance says you will not get far because the adventure is built for teamwork.

  3. 3
    One host keeps progress

The host’s game saves automatically. Continuing later requires that same person to start the saved journey again.

  4. 4
    Communication rules matter

External chat bypasses distance, walls, radios, and silent situations. The game still runs, but the official FAQ warns that important challenges stop making sense.

Price-to-group check

Judge the cost against attendance, not just hours.

The checked US Steam list price is $19.99, but regional prices and promotions move. More important: every participant needs access on a supported device, and no first-party Friend Pass documentation was found as of . Before anyone buys, confirm the host, the smallest reliable attendance, platform access, and whether the group can return for later sessions.

Bottom line

A remarkable social toy wrapped around a commitment.

Our spoiler-free verdict is positive with one large condition: Big Walk needs a group, not merely a purchase. Its strongest ideas—distance-sensitive conversation, physical gestures, incomplete information, and shared navigation—all reward friends who are willing to stay inside the fiction and return with the same host.

Buy when the coordination is already solved. Wait if you need solo progress, random teammates, a Friend Pass, or an interchangeable save; the official sources checked on did not document those options. That distinction explains more than a single score ever could.

Quick answers

Big Walk review FAQ

Is Big Walk worth buying?

It is a strong fit for a recurring group that enjoys communication-heavy co-op, exploration, physical comedy, and solving things together. It is a poor fit if you need solo progression, public matchmaking, or a campaign that one player can continue without the original host.

What are Big Walk reviews like?

The score snapshot has aged out. Use the official Steam page for the current user-review label and any displayed critic score.

What is the Big Walk Metacritic score?

The previous score snapshot has expired. Check the current official Steam storefront display rather than relying on an old number.

Is Big Walk good with only two players?

Yes. The official FAQ says every player count from 2 to 12 is valid. Two players produce the most focused co-op version; larger groups become increasingly chaotic.

Can I play Big Walk alone or with random players?

Not as a complete campaign. There is no single-player progression mode and no public matchmaking. Organize at least one other player before buying.

Does Big Walk have a story and ending?

Yes. House House describes a handcrafted adventure with a beginning, middle, and end, while also leaving room to explore and hang out between objectives.
